
Greenwood was founded by John Williams as William's Landing in 1834. It was chartered as Greenwood in 1844.Greenwood was named for the Indian Chief Greenwood Leflore. Since 1917, it has been one of the world's largest long staple cotton markets. It is home to Staplcotn, the largest producer owned cotton cooperative in the United States. It is also home to Viking Range, a privately held company which manufactures and markets the industry's professional kitchen appliances for the home. Its products can be seen on many of the programs on the Food Network.
