This page is dedicated to my friend, Sgt. John A. "Johnny" Pittman, who was awarded our nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his conspicuous gallantry and actions above and beyond the call of duty during the Korean conflict. I am so very proud that he was my friend.

- Congressman Benjamin Grubb Humphreys spoke at the Greenwood Theatre, June 7,1915.
- The Greenwood Commonwealth reported in it's November 5,1904 edition, that Greenwood is to have streetcars within 12 months. In December of 1906, a 50 year franchise was granted for a street railway system.
- On October 14,1924, the Ku Klux Klan staged a march through the streets of Greenwood, ending at the ballpark at the end of Mississippi Avenue. Dr. R.J. Stephenson, Grand Titan of the Realm of Mississippi, introduced the speaker, Dr. William J. MacDougal, a former Scottish Rite lecturer and a Presbyterian minister. They both were introduced by the master of ceremonies, the Honorable Means Johnston.
- On May 28,1915, the Greenwood Commonwealth proposed building a bandstand on the schoolhouse grounds.
- On January 20,1916, the D.W. Griffith spectacle,"Birth of a Nation" was shown at the Greenwood Theatre.
- On May 18,1916, the granite drinking fountain was donated to the City of Greenwood by the Chakchiuma Chapter of the D.A.R.
- January 20,1923, Woolworth's 5 and 10 Cent store opened in Greenwood.
- July 12,1923, the swimming pool at the high school building opened for boys and girls.
- July 11, 1923, the first open air concert of the summer season by the Greenwood Symphony Orchestra on the courthouse lawn. Professor William Deal, Municipal Director of Music.
- January 19-February 7, 1924, wood blocks were removed from Main Street, between Market and Washington streets, and on Howard Street, and paved with the bricks you now see.
